Hey, another website! We happen to know someone who is not only a top-notch cook, but is also a great writer about and photographer of her kitchen conquests. We, of course, are talking about the proprietor of the Wonderland Kitchen food blog. And because the photographic and literary evidence of her culinary creations rivals their deliciousness, we wanted content to reign as king on the site. A stark, minimalist theme did the trick. And, oh, we also designed the simple logo. You’ll be asking to come over for dinner when you give the site a look (and read).

So, hey, looks like this is a small business or something. Yes, that’s exactly what it is. Over the years I’ve done web design work for some of my close friends, people who’ve helped me out, and for a handful of my own projects. It’s something I enjoy doing and thought it was about time to go legit on the business end. So, there you have it, Big Ring Creative.
While website work will likely be BRC’s flagship service, we have also more than dabbled in a variety of other forms of digital media, such as podcasts and short videos. Hey, you can check some of that work out too in the portfolio.
The overarching thing we shoot for with any work we do is simplicity—minimalist design is beautiful—and functionality. A website should not only look good, but it should also be easy to use. As our tag line says, this is a “small batch” operation, meaning we try to create the highest quality work for our clients. There’s one very important distinction we want to make with our small batch/whiskey analogy: when we say quality, we don’t mean you spend a fortune. Quite the contrary. We are committed to providing clients with the highest quality product for the lowest possible price. Why? Because this is fun. Simple as that. Really.
So what’s with “Big Ring”? As you may have deduced, it’s an allusion to cycling. I’m a competitive cyclist and love cycling. For cyclists, the “big ring” is a metaphor for going big and taking it to the limit. Though we bike racers love to romanticize cycling, the big ring trope can be applied to life as well. I’m not a half-ass kind of guy, which is why I find it meaningful.
As we’ve finally gotten our act together and decided that having a little web design and digital media company is a good idea, we’ve mined the archives for stuff we did and that would look kind of handsome in our portfolio. And actually, the site we did for Metro Gallery turns out to be the first site we consider part of the business. So, yeah, it’s the first! Maybe it’s a bad idea to let this cat out of the bag, but I actually turned this around in less than 24 hours. BUT, Sarah Williams, Metro’s proprietor, was SUPER prepared and knew exactly what she wanted. I like that. Again, it’s always great to help really awesome people out, especially those who have helped me out so much over the years and who do so much to enrich Baltimore’s cultural life. Check out the site!

When my friends told me they were opening a new bike shop in Baltimore—in my neighborhood, no less—and asked me if I’d be willing to make a website for them the answer was a no-brainer. I obviously love cycling and I love doing work for people who have a passion for their craft or their business or their whatever. The guys at Twenty20 are the most knowledgable, professional, and courteous dudes in Baltimore. It’s been exciting to watch the shop continue to grow and flourish since they opened just a little over a year ago. I’m glad to have had a small part in helping to get the shop off the ground.
